About

It started with a good report that did nothing.

Throughline exists because of a personality assessment that was genuinely insightful — and completely useless three days later.

Two colleagues in genuine conversation at a table

The moment the product serves: two people, trying to understand each other.

In 2026, our founder Ben took a well-regarded workplace personality assessment. The report was good — accurate, even a little uncomfortable in the way good ones are. And then it did what every personality report does: it became a PDF in a folder, and life went on exactly as before.

The frustration wasn't the science. It was the delivery. The report described one person, in isolation, at a single moment — when every hard question at work is about two people, in context, right now. How do I open this conversation? Why does this pairing keep sparking? What is this team systematically missing?

Meanwhile, the way we work had quietly changed. Knowledge workers now run half their day through an AI assistant — drafting the email, prepping the one-to-one, planning the meeting. The assistant is exactly where personality insight is needed, at exactly the moment it's needed. It just had no idea who your colleagues were.

Throughline is that missing layer: your team's working styles, measured properly, structured carefully, and made available to the assistant you already use — so the insight shows up in the moment, not in a drawer.

Principles

Four things we won't compromise.

Science first

Measurement built on the Big Five with validated public-domain instruments. When popular and rigorous conflict, we pick rigorous — and present it warmly.

Consent first

Teams opt in together, sharing is mutual, and colleagues only see the summary you choose to share. Trust is the product; we don't spend it.

In the flow of work

No new dashboard to visit. Throughline lives inside the assistant where work already happens, and shows up only when a question involves people.

Honest about limits

Style is not ability. Throughline refuses performance, promotion and hiring questions — and every claim carries a label saying what it stands on.

The name

The line that runs through.

A throughline is the thread that connects the scenes of a story — the thing that makes separate moments make sense together.

It's what a working style is to a person: the consistent thread beneath the good days and bad ones. And it's what we draw between people — the line connecting how you work to how your colleague does. You'll see it everywhere in our brand: two nodes, one curve.

Who's behind it

Built by an operator, for teams like his.

Throughline is built by Ben Johnson-Flint, a founder and operator who has spent his career inside small, fast-moving teams — running his own businesses, advising others through his consultancy, and living every one of the people-questions this product answers.

It's developed the unglamorous way: tested on real teams, with real assessments, against written gold standards — and redesigned every time the evidence disagreed with the plan.

The test we hold ourselves to
If the guidance for one colleague still reads fine with another colleague's name swapped in, it isn't personal enough to ship. Personality advice that fits everyone helps no one.
